Talked to Momma's atty today about the sale of her house. Apparently, it went through yesterday, but the Title Company paid her next door neighbor $175 dollars for mowing her yard because he filed a claim.
Ummm... doesn't the title company HAVE to ask me if they can pay him? I thought that they did. I am angry because although he DID mow Mom's yard for her, he also did it BEFORE she left her home, and used HER mower for his yard and hers AFTER she moved in with us until we went and got it!
Now, how can he file a claim against her home estate with out consulting me (the executress)?
I am awaiting the paperwork, which should be here by the end of the week, or beginning of next week. I will be calling the Title Company and raising dickens with them for NOT asking me first.
I want Mom's money back.
Well, I'm dealing with daddy's estate as well. We spent part of the morning at the courthouse today. I *think* that most everything the I have to do has been done, but we shall see. I honestly would not be surprised if some unexpected issue comes up during the red tape process. I am really surprised at how complicated the whole probate process is, even with an estate as small as my dad's. I will be so glad once the whole thing is finished.
ReplyDeleteI hope you do get her money back. Lousy neighbor.
Blessings!
ReplyDeleteFirst, I don't think it's legal for the title company to pay any such thing unless there is a lean on the property in which case they will and can do that to make sure the title stays clean.
Second, it's only 175 dollars. I know that sounds like a lot of money and it seems unfair but isn't it better to show a kindness than a bitterness? For whatever reasons this person feels entitled to it. Perhaps the kindness of just letting it go will plant a seed in their heart of goodness and love and change them for the good.
Just my thoughts.
God be with thee!
