January 31, 2010

Well, here I am, sitting in front of my computer, finishing off my day.  :)

I worked the night of the 29th and was unusually cold all night long. Now, where I work, it gets to the freezing point about 2-3am, but that night, I stayed cold. Came home in the morning, still cold, and curled up in bed with 3 blankets over me. I woke up a couple of hours later, and was shaking so bad, my teeth were chattering, and I didn't feel well at all. I had a blanket wrapped around me and was in my flannel jammies....
I tried to take my temperature, but couldn't get my mouth to close around the thermometer! (I was that cold...)

So I took my axillary temp, and discovered I had a temperature of 103.6!  Heaven's sake!

I took a couple of Aleve and by then, DH was home and took off to get some  medicine, but not before feeding me some of the good old fashioned moonshine medicine that we have. (Granny's Secret Recipe, you know...)

I felt better by the end of the evening, and today, I have no fever, but my lower back hurts and I have a slight headache.

DH cleaned out the chimney today, and we have a nice warm fire in the stove again! Yea!

We're eating leftovers for supper, so nothing amazing is going on today 'cept laundry. And that's not very exciting...  :)

Oh! I did put in a few applications the past few days, so good Lord willin' and the creek don't rise, I may have a new position soon....

And thank you for the congratulations every one! I appreciate it!

January 29, 2010

Well, it's final.... I am a RN!

It's been a long hard road, with dropping out to take care of Mom and then Dad passing away, daughters getting married, grandbabies being born....

Finally made it. Took my boards yesterday and found out I passed before I even got home. IT was quick!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hubby took a notion to clean out the wood stove today. Its so cold in here right now, that we actually had to turn the heat on! And that hasn't been on for 3 years or better.... the gas company is probably doing a dance as we speak, so excited to be getting more of our money to heat up our house for 2 hours till the wood kicks back in!
Well.... just wanted to pass along my happy news to my friends... and now I am off to nap before work tonight.
Hope ya'll are warmer than we are!  :)
January 20, 2010
Have my test scheduled, so that's done. Need to study a bit more, will get back on track with that.... DH has therapy for his hand today, so we'll go to that, and I am working tonight.
Had an abcessed tooth acting up Friday, so I went to work and called in the next day. Couldn't get into the dentist till Monday. And it hurt... ohhh... so bad did it hurt! I was in tears at times!
At the Dentist Monday, he lanced it, inserted a drain, stitched the drain in, and sent me home on ATB's and pain meds. I slept 6 hours Friday afternoon, then went to bed and slept all night. Woke up to get dd off to school, took ATB and pain med, and slept again till 11am.
The ATB he had me on had to be changed, as it was making me sick to my stomach, and causing chest pain among numerous other things, so he changed it yesterday, and this AM, I feel like a million bucks! (Cept I have to go back tomorrow and have more work done to this ol tooth of mine. (I think he's just gonna pull it.)
So I am working tonight, taking tomorrow off, and working Friday.......
Than next week for my exam, I am taking Wed and Thurs off......
Thank goodness for Income Tax refund! We're gonna need it to get caught up with all this getting behind stuff with me not working!
January 6, 2010
Finally got an email from the State Board of Nursing... they said I needed to turn in my Certificate of Completion from my school. So I called and left a message with the Dean of our nursing program, she called me back and told me that depending on when grades were turned in, that's when she mailed the certificates out.
So it's a waiting game.... and I'm waiting.
It looks like people that are able to schedule now, are able to schedule their tests for the end of January, so I may be able to test for my RN sometime in February.
Hope so.
Working on my Goals
Working on my goals today.... have 4 loaves of bread in the oven as we speak...this was before the 2nd rising....A chicken in the crockpot...
and noodles to go with supper.
Today has been a good day, a productive day. I've finished up my laundry, then started supper, so my family can eat well this evening. AND.... 17 y/o bf is coming over for dinner, and that youngin can eat! LOL! He's a good boy, and I don't mind. :) Since dh hurt his hand, the bf sure has been a big help around here! (That, and he's kind of adopted DH as his "dad".)
We have the wood stove burning bright and hot today. The snow is blowing, and it's c-o-l-d outside!
Little granddaughter is asleep on the couch for a little afternoon rest cause she was a pistol needing to be tamed right quick. So I set her down and she dozed. Believe me, I'm letting her rest till her Momma comes! LOL!
Time to get off here. Bread is ready to come out, and I need to tend to my other things (like ironing my uniforms for work, and straightening up my sewing room!)
Blessings to you all, and please... continue to let me know ways to be frugal in a family!  :)
January 3, 2010
Hello all....
Been perusing the net for different recipes and frugal ways of living. Seems to me the past few months I have been lacking in both of these areas, and now our finances are suffering. Suffering even more so than usual.
We've been spending left and right, without a thought of the consequences, and eating out more so than ever.
It's time to reign this in...
Starting today, I vow to:
  • Work on menu plans and stick to them. Have healthy snacks available for the family.
  • Use a 30 day plan for "I want vs I need". After 30 days, do I still want it or do we really need it? Is there a cheaper way?
  • To get to my sewing machine a bit more.
  • Reuse and repurpose.
  • Find a church and attend on a regular basis.
Our life seemed to be much more fulfilling when we lived more simply. I miss that.
Tell me...... what do you do to live more simply and how do you make living frugal yet enjoyable?
